Why “This Little Piggy”?
Welcome to “This Little Piggy.”
I started this blog as a way of keeping friends and family updated on the fabulous life of Eleanor Iris Friesen, our new baby girl. The name “this little piggy” refers to the fact that Ellie was born in the year of the pig, according to the Chinese zodiac. Furthermore, this year bears the remarkable honor of being the year of the “lucky golden pig.” For those who know me, the name also pays homage to my life-long obsession with the porcine species.
I’d also like to use this blog to keep in touch with all of my new “mom” friends who have sons and daughters close to Eleanor’s age, other “little piggies” you might call them.

*Note: While I am a huge fan of pigs, the idea of naming this blog after the Chinese Zodiac Pig sign is all in good “clean” fun. Whatever you may believe, I have a strong faith in Jesus Christ and know that any “luck” we have is really a blessing from him. Still. . . I think God has a sense of humor giving me a child in the year of the pig, my favorite animal.
Eleanor is here!
Eleanor Iris Friesen is two weeks old today and lovin’ life. As for Ben and I we are getting adjusted to being parents. We still look at each other and say “we have a baby.” It’s pretty crazy the way this new little person radically alters your whole life. Being a mom seems to be the most natural thing in the world and yet a foreign occupation as well. Naturally, I have found that I would do anything for her, gladly give up my days and nights. It does seem strange to me, though, how quickly my life went from being self-focused to completely one-tracked. All Eleanor all the time.
We have started this blog so that all of Eleanor’s fans can check in on her and see what she has been up to. Please let us know how we are doing.
